Port Blair | Andaman and Nicobar Islands | EP 4

This is my adventure from Port Blair- Chidiyatappu, Wandoor Beach, Mount Harriet National Park, Chatham Saw mill, Anthropological Museum and Samudrika Naval Marine Museum. This was one insane trip and I am going to show you the best places to visit in Andamans. Port Blair is the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India in the Bay of Bengal. It is also the local administrative sub-division of the islands, the headquarters for the district of South Andaman, and the territory's only notified town. Port Blair is the entry point for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is connected with mainland India by both air and sea. It is a two to three-hour flight from mainland India to Port Blair's Veer Savarkar International Airport and three to four days by sea to reach Kolkata, Chennai, or Visakhapatnam from Haddo Wharf in the city. It is home to several museums and the major naval base INS Jarawa of the Indian Navy, along with sea and air bases of the Indian Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Police, Andaman and Nicobar Command, the first integrated tri-command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Indian Air Force.[4] Chidiyatappu- the southernmost tip of South Andaman Island situated at a distance of 28 Kms from Port Blair. Frequent bus service are available from Port Blair. It is famous for bird watching, sunset view, panoramic scenic beauties, and many colours of oceanic view. Swimming can be done at Chidiyatappu. Safety places boards are erected in Chidiyatappu. The biological park at Chidiyatappu is the added attraction. There is a Forest Guest House run and maintained by Forest Department, is under Chief Wildlife Warden, Haddo. The Wandoor Beach is located 25 KMs from the Airport and is one of the major attractions in Port Blair. It comes under the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park area along with several other attractions. With sustainable tourism and protection of the forests under the Andaman Islands Administration, the beach is surrounded by a vast variety of fauna, which covers it from three sides. Mount Harriet National Park, officially renamed as Mount Manipur National Park, is a national park located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands union territory of India. The park, established in 1969, covers about 4.62 km2 (18.00 mi2). Mount Manipur (Mount Harriet) (383 metres (1,257 ft)), which is a part of the park, is the third-highest peak in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago next to Saddle Peak (732 metres (2,402 ft)) in North Andaman and Mount Thullier (568 metres (1,864 ft)) in Great Nicobar. Chatham Saw mill was established in 1883 with the primary objective to meet the local requirements of sawn timber for the constructional works. The machines initially installed were second hand and operated with unskilled man power available at that time. Unfortunately during the Second World War, the mill was destroyed badly by the direct hit of bombs, paralysing its working completely. The Anthropological Museum, in Port Blair, started in the year 1975-76, and is an ethnographic museum. It showcases the four Negrito tribes of the Andaman i.e the Jarawas, Sentinelese, Great Andamanese and the Onges and two Mongoloid tribes of the Nicobar - the Nicobarese and the Shompens. Samudrika Naval Marine Museum is a museum situated near the Andaman Teal House at Port Blair in India, designed to create awareness on various aspects of the oceanic environment.[2] The museum is maintained by the Indian Navy.[3] The museum has five sections presenting history of Andaman Islands, geographical information, people of Andaman, archaeology, and marine life.[4] It also houses a vast collection of cells, corals and a few species of colourful fishes of the sea around the islands.
