DIY NIPA HUT (BAHAY KUBO MINIATURE)

DIY NIPA HUT (BAHAY KUBO MINIATURE)

My chosen artwork is a miniature nipa hut which is also known as 'bahay kubo'. My artwork is made from various recyclable materials, combined to be able to form a masterpiece that possesses fineness, beauty and sturdiness. This place have witnessed and heard so many laughters and stories that seemed never-ending. I used popsicle sticks in building the wall of the miniature nipa hut, a board that is no longer in use for the flooring, bamboo sticks for the post or base and pigmental rocks that I picked up from the seaside. Other than that, to complete my artwork, I used coconut leaves that serves as protection from either the scorching heat of the sun or coldness that is brought by the rain. Through our creativeness and perseverance, everything is possible. We are able to build a humble home just by giving importance to those things that we did not expect to use. The nipa hut symbolizes the simpleness, uniformity and being plain of the family that lives there. To top it all, this humble home has been coated with a varnish that reflects the brown skin tone of every Filipino. I also put some paint in this nipa hut to enhance its already fascinating look and give it a lively ambience.
