🏛️ Julius Caesar’s Last Day – The Fall of a Legend ⚔️ The Background By 44 BC, Julius Caesar was not just Rome’s most powerful man — he was becoming something more: A dictator for life (dictator perpetuo), a title that alarmed many Roman senators. To them, Caesar looked less like a leader — and more like a king, a title Romans deeply hated since the fall of their monarchy centuries earlier. 🗓️ The Ides of March (March 15, 44 BC) On the morning of March 15, Caesar ignored several warnings and omens — even a soothsayer’s words: “Beware the Ides of March.” He went to the Theatre of Pompey, where the Senate was meeting. As he took his seat, a group of conspirators — more than 60 senators, including his trusted allies Brutus and Cassius — surrounded him. 🩸 The Assassination In a shocking moment, Casca struck first, followed by the others. Caesar fought back at first but stopped when he saw Brutus, the man he considered a friend, among the attackers. According to legend, he said: “Et tu, Brute?” (“You too, Brutus?”) Then he fell — stabbed 23 times, at the base of Pompey’s statue. 🏛️ The Aftermath The assassins believed they had saved the Republic. Instead, their act plunged Rome into chaos. Civil wars followed, leading to the rise of Caesar’s heir, Octavian (Augustus) — and the birth of the Roman Empire. Caesar’s death ended the Republic… but made him immortal in history. ⚠️ Disclaimer: This video is for educational and historical storytelling purposes only.
