Could the James Webb Space Telescope see the Flags left by apollo astronauts on the Moon? The size of its mirror. The resolving power of a telescope is related to the size of its mirror. The bigger the mirror, the more details it can see. I’ve shown in other videos that the hubble space telescope can’t see the flags, but James Webb has a mirror that is more than twice the diameter. But that’s still too small to resolve the flags. Another issue: it’s farther from the moon than Hubble. Like 4 times farther at its closest. And when it’s closest, it’d be looking at the wrong side of the Moon. Another thing: James Webb is an infrared observatory, so unless the flags are emitting infrared radiation, we’re out of luck.
