Police Search for Serial Rapist

DAYTON -- Police are looking for a serial rapist who they say attacked three women at the same abandoned home. Neighbors tell us all the vacant homes on West Grand Avenue are a hot bed of criminal activity. Dayton police say an unidentified black male used a vacant home on W. Grand as his sadistic playground. In the last four months he physically and sexually assaulted three women in or around the property. "All the abandoned houses is the pedestal for criminal activity," Dayton's Alonso Robinson said. Folks say the all the vacant homes makes their street a good area to do bad things. 'Vet' has lived in her West Grand home for 20 years, and turned off her outdoor faucets because squatters kept stealing her water. "It's sad that you have to say you're used to living like this," Vet explained. "You can hear gunshots and as long as you don't hear anybody yell you don't think to call the police because they won't come anyway." Neighbors say vacant homes have to go. "We have a wooden structure. It's nothing for a bullet to come through the house, its nothing for someone dealing drugs in the area to come to our house. That's scary. It's why we have bars on our windows," Vet continued. While the city has demolished two homes on the street in the last year, residents say Dayton needs to pick up the pace. "They're taking their time. They're knocking down stuff but it's a slow process. I think because of the area we're in that there's no sense of urgency," Vet added. Folks say they hope these recent rapes will shed light on their street and increase the urgency and need for demolishing the rest of these vacant homes.
