Garden Clean Up

Garden Clean Up

Hi! I’m Josh with SelfReliantSchool.com, and today i’m going to weed and... ▼Click below for more info and links▼ clean up our gardens, so why don’t you come along? First I'll weed the main garden, and then fill in the low spots with some spare bags of soil. Then I’ll cut down the broken string on our trellises and restring them with some ordinary twine. First I’ll just tie a knot at the top, and wind it back and forth all the way down. Then I’m going to pull back the fence and trim the honeysuckle, and pull up this tree that seems to have invaded our yard. Now you may be asking how I tell the difference between a honeysuckle and a guava, and the answer is, the honeysuckle is completely green with pointed leaves, while the guava has smooth leaves with green tops and grayish-green bottoms. And the guava is a pretty big bush. So it should be able to bounce back from me trimming it like this. It looks like I have to break out the big guns for this invading tree, and by the big guns I mean our jumbo sized loppers. Now I have to pull up the ivy coming in from the neighbors yard, that has made it’s way into our flower bed. The flower bed is where we keep most of our more permanent plants. When I pull up this ivy, I have to be careful of our mint, since we want to keep it, and I also have to be careful of spiders that like to hide down there, which is why I’m wearing gloves. I’ll also have to fix up the fence that walls this area off from the rest of the yard. And now I’m going to use these peach seeds that I've collected over the weeks to see if I can start a new peach tree; maybe I could even start one indoors? All I really have to do to the herb garden is clean up the stakes. You're probably wondering what these are, these are makeshift tomato cages made from some chicken wire, which I will either store in the shed or the garage, I might use them again in the main garden later, but they can’t stay here. And after that, that’ll be it! So I hope you enjoyed watching me get ready for the gardening season; in the next video, we can finally get to planting! So I’ll see you then!
