The New Vaudeville Band - Winchester Cathedral (1966)

The New Vaudeville Band was created by Geoff Stephens (the songwriter) in 1966 to record the song "Winchester Cathedral", a song inspired by the dance bands of the 1920s! Surprisingly, the song became a transatlantic hit, reaching the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and rising to #1 in the United States. The song was recorded in the studio by the studio players, as there was no band to perform this composition, but shortly after that Geoff created his band (The New Vaudeville Band) to place several singles in the US and UK top 40 through 1967 before dissolving.
