Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to design and animate an On/Off toggle switch in Figma, using Smart Animate for smooth transitions. PART 1: Design the Toggle 1. Create the Toggle Base • Open Figma and create a new Frame or use an artboard. Select the Rectangle Tool (R). • Draw a rounded rectangle (e.g. 60px width, 30px height). • Set the corner radius to 50% or 15px to make it pill-shaped. • Set the fill color to a light gray (#E0E0E0) - this will represent the OFF state. 2. Create the Toggle Knob • Draw a circle (24px x 24px). • Place it on the left side of the toggle base with 3px margin. • Set the fill to white. • Add a shadow (optional) for depth. 3. Group the Elements • Select both the toggle base and knob. • Right-click → Group Selection (or Cmd/Ctrl + G). • Name it Toggle OFF. PART 2: Create ON State • Duplicate the Toggle • Duplicate the Toggle OFF frame/group. • Rename the new one to Toggle ON. 2. Change Background Color Select the toggle base and change the fill to a green color (e.g. #4CD964). 3. Move the Knob • Move the toggle knob to the right side, keeping the same 3px margin from the right. PART 3: Add Smart Animation 1. Create a Component Set • Select both Toggle OFF and Toggle ON groups. • Right-click → Create Component Set (or Shift + Alt + K). • This will turn them into a Variant set. • Rename the property from Property 1 to State. • Label the variants as OFF and ON. 2. Add Interaction • Click on the OFF variant. • In the right-hand Prototype tab, drag the interaction arrow to the ON variant. Set: • On Click • Change to → ON • Animation → Smart Animate • Easing → Ease In and Out • Duration → 300ms • Do the same from ON → OFF for toggle back. PART 4: Preview • Click the Play icon (Present mode). • Click on the toggle - it should animate smoothly between ON and OFF! Optional Enhancements: • Add an icon inside the knob (like a checkmark or power icon). • Add text labels (ON / OFF) beside the toggle.
