Five years after the fall of the Republic, Cal lives in hiding, working as a scrapper on the planet Bracca. However, when he uses the Force to save a friend, he draws the attention of the Empire’s Inquisitors, dark side agents tasked with hunting down remaining Jedi. Cal narrowly escapes and is rescued by Cere Junda, a former Jedi Knight, and her pilot companion Greez Dritus. They reveal a mission to rebuild the Jedi Order. With the help of a droid named BD-1, they search for an ancient artifact left by Jedi Master Eno Cordova, who hid a Holocron containing a list of Force-sensitive children. The journey takes Cal across multiple planets, including Zeffo and Dathomir, where he faces remnants of the Empire, hostile creatures, and remnants of the dark side. Throughout his journey, Cal faces personal challenges, including haunting memories of his former master, Jaro Tapal, who sacrificed himself during Order 66. He also contends with the Empire’s Second Sister, an Inquisitor revealed to be Cere's former Padawan, Trilla, who fell to the dark side after being captured and tortured by the Empire. In the end, Cal finds the Holocron but decides to destroy it, realizing that actively searching for the children would only put them in greater danger. He and his companions agree that their path forward is uncertain but vow to continue resisting the Empire and helping where they can.
