Cryptocurrency is a digital currency system based on a blockchain, in which each transaction is authenticated and guarded using cryptography by computers or nodes. Wei Dai first proposed the concept of cryptocurrency in 1998, arguing that rather than relying on a central authority, cryptography could be used to build and transact a new type of money. The first functional version of that idea was Bitcoin, the oldest and most well-known cryptocurrency. Satoshi Nakamoto's white paper, which was published in 2009, was the first to launch Bitcoin. How Cryptocurrency Works Sending cryptocurrency from one individual to another is a simple cryptocurrency transaction. Cryptocurrencies are kept in electronic "wallets," and transactions are made from one wallet to the next. A public key and a private key are associated with each wallet. The public key is used to generate a wallet address so that you can collect cryptocurrencies. The right of ownership to the wallet is granted by a private key, which must never be exchanged with others. The cryptographic signature that helps validate cryptocurrency transactions to and from your wallet is provided by a private key and the wallet. If Sam wants to submit Nina Ethereum (1ETH), for example, the transaction would require 1ETH to be debited from Sam's wallet and credited to Nina's. The transaction will be a code containing information such as the recipient's address, the sender's signature, and the amount of cryptocurrency to be exchanged, among other items. This transaction will then be broadcast on the Ethereum network to be checked or mined until it was submitted. Cryptocurrency sees impressive growth is it worth selling bitcoin (BTC) now?
