This section discusses rheumatoid arthritis, also known as chronic polyarthritis: an inflammatory (autoimmune) joint disease that can also affect organs such as the lungs or kidneys. The autoallergic pathogenesis and diagnosis are discussed. Particularly important are: IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α (the three "bad guys" of chronic inflammation), and antibodies such as rheumatoid factor or ACPA. The importance of moderate exercise with sufficient rest periods is emphasized.
