The First Joyful Mystery of the Holy Rosary: The Annunciation of the angel Gabriel, and the Incarnation of the Son of God in the womb of the Blessed Virgin. 1. The most Holy Trinity consents to the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. 2. Mary is chosen to be the Mother of the Incarnate Word. 3. The Angel Gabriel announces that happiness to Mary. 4. Mary prays in Her holy solitude. 5. The Angel salutes Her, saying, “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.” 6. Mary is troubled at the sight and speech of the Angel. 7. The Angel says, “ Fear not, Mary, Thou shalt conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost.” 8. Mary answers, “ Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto Me according to thy word.” 9. The Holy Ghost overshadows Her. 10. And the Word was made Flesh, and dwelt among us. VIRTUE — HUMILITY. Humble yourself frequently by considering your nothingness, your sins and miseries. Be willing that others despise you. Patiently bear with any contempt you may meet with. ASPIRATION: “To thee, O Lord, be glory and honor — to us shame and confusion.”
