Microsoft made this commercial for the 2020 Super Bowl. It tells the powerful story of openly gay 49ers coach Katie Sowers, the first woman ever to coach a team at the Super Bowl. "Microsoft is committed to empowering the next generation of game-changers, like Katie Sowers. As an Offensive Assistant Coach for the San Francisco 49ers, she’s made history as the first woman to ever coach in the Super Bowl. When you have a dream, bring it to the Surface." When her team lost the Super Bowl on Feb 2, she quoted Ellen Degeneres in a tweet, to ask for fans to refrain from hate posts: "As @TheEllenShow says, Be Kind." Just six years after the first LGBT representation in the biggest advertising event of the year, this is one of 11 commercials featuring LGBT characters. We have come a long way, helped no doubt by the SCOTUS decision to allow same-sex marriage in 2015.
