The Taliban are a group of people who are following the Islamic lifestyle of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Their mindset is one that does not allow them to integrate in to society and they want to take control and force their beliefs on people. They want to make everyone believe what they believe and go about life in the way they have set out for others. The US has recognized the Taliban as a terrorist organization. They are not just an armed militia, but a cultural mindset that can be seen in Afghanistan and Pakistan. "Talib" is the Arabic word for "student". The Taliban are students of Mohammed who believe he was the last prophet. These students want to bring about Sharia law and unite all Muslims under one caliphate. They oppose any other law or government than that of Sharia law, which they believe should rule over every Muslim country. The Taliban is not just a group of people with guns. It is an ideology which is deeply rooted in the Pashtun culture and values. The Taliban are not an organization but rather a mentality that does not value individualism, or democracy and equality. The meaning of the term Taliban is something that cannot be defined or described. It is a mentality that is followed by many people. The term Taliban has been used in different contexts for centuries, but it gained worldwide attention during the war in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014 and the accompanying NATO intervention, which led to the military defeat of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The Taliban has been around since the 1980s and has risen to power by controlling a large part of Afghanistan. The Taliban was an armed resistance group in Afghanistan that resisted the Soviet invasion and then later the Afghan government. There are many reasons for why the Taliban came to be as well as how they have managed to continue to exist. One of their main goals is to impose their beliefs on society through a strict interpretation of Sharia law. They want all other religions, customs, and cultures stripped away. The Taliban are the ones who promote and practice violence in the name of Islam--against women, against other faiths, against their own people, and against anyone who doesn't share their narrow views about life. The Taliban are the ones who issue diatribes to show that they're more pious than thou; who love to put bombs on buses as much as they love to put them on their bodies. They believe that they are the true followers of Islam, and they have had a major influence on the country. The ideology of the Taliban is not one that has been historically embraced by Afghan society. The ideology is rooted in a literal interpretation of Islam, which was created outside Afghanistan and imposed on it with force. The Taliban came to power because they managed to gain popular support through their campaign against the Soviet Union, who were seen as occupiers at the time. The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 with hopes of establishing their own sphere of influence in Central Asia and to spread socialism throughout the region.
