It appears, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has struck the right chord by talking tough. Yes, that’s asking the scientists of none other than the Defence Research and Development Laboratories (DRDO), to shed the ‘chaltha hai’ attitude. According to his information, even the light combat aircraft, of which Tejas is part, is ready for use but hasn’t received operational clearance yet. Meanwhile, the DRDO chief, Avinash Chander, who took over only last year, defended saying that an expenditure model for R&D had not yet developed. But one thing is clear, the sort of inertia that had come to characterise the DRDO will have to change given the PM’s push to show results in this field.
