for whatever reason, the final game includes 4 activation sounds for the brute, yet only 3 are assigned in the enabled.snt file. this is what it otherwise would've sounded like should it play in game. you can reenable this by going to steamapps\common\Amnesia The Dark Descent\sounds\enemy\brute, going down to "enabled.snt", opening it in notepad++, and then copying one of the Sound File strings and replacing the corresponding number (in this case, 03) with "04". it is there that it should randomly play in game whenever a brute spawns. this should also work for custom stories too, if they haven't made a custom version of the brute that has its own separated files. weird piece of trivia, amnesia remastered claims to of fixed this, but they actually didn't fix it at all. in fact, they didn't even add it to the enabled.snt file. so no matter what, it wouldn't play. theres a fixed version of it made by zoofy that you can find here that adds this fix, AND then some: https://www.moddb.com/mods/amnesia-th...
