John Michael Schmitz, the center from the University of Minnesota, has finally signed his contract with the team. It's official, folks! Now, we got our entire 2023 draft class locked and loaded. Schmitz, the 57th overall pick, is a big fella standing at 6-4 and weighing in at 320 pounds. This guy's gonna bring some serious competition to the center position during training camp. We're excited to see him battle it out for that starting spot! During his time at Minnesota, Schmitz was a force to be reckoned with. He spent six seasons with the Golden Gophers, with five of those seasons on the field. The dude played in a whopping 57 games, starting in 35 of them. And get this, he started every single one of the 31 games he played in his final three seasons. That's some dedication right there! Not only was Schmitz a beast on the field, but he also excelled academically. The Chicago native graduated with a degree in sport management and was named Academic All-Big Ten for five consecutive seasons. Yeah, you heard that right, five years of academic excellence. We got ourselves a smart and talented player, my friends. In 2022, Schmitz dominated as the starting center for the Gophers. He paved the way for an offense that rushed for over 2,600 yards and scored 33 touchdowns on the ground. And let's not forget about the passing game. The Gophers threw for 2,369 yards and 12 touchdowns. Schmitz was a key contributor to those impressive numbers. Now, I gotta ask you, Giants fans. What's your take on Schmitz joining our team?
