Winning Super Brawl X was a high like no other for AJ, as he and Christopher Daniels then sought to prove themselves as worthy Tag Team Champions, taking on all comers. However, Raven had a rematch clause in his contract, but as the sole remaining member of the Triple Threat, it seemed as if he had no-one to partner him in that shot. The Champions didn't care who he picked, accepting the challenge to face Raven at New Year's Revolution.... only for the diabolical fiend to reveal his partner as the returning EWA legend Rene Dupree, a man AJ Styles had much history with, after teaming with him as part of Le Phenomen almost five years ago and capturing Tag Team Titles together! And that shock threw AJ and Daniels through enough of a loop that Raven and Dupree were able to best them at the pay per view and end their reign as Champions! However, Styles and Daniels tried bouncing back, competing in a Tag Battle Royal a couple of weeks later for another shot, only to get eliminated from the match and seemingly end up at square one again. They would then put their Tag Team Title aspirations to one side though upon seeing the carnage the newly formed group known as The Cure were causing, instead facing the combined forces of The Rock, Kane and Sheamus at Collision Course while teaming with fellow Zaibatsu member, Sir Douglas Williams.... but it proved to be in a losing effort, one that saw Williams get injured at the hands of The Cure and possibly his career ended at their hands! Things only seemed to get worse as AJ and the rest of the Zaibatsu would get beaten time and time again by The Cure, knocked back and brought to the brink of destruction. And for AJ himself, he was on a long losing streak, one that threatened to break his spirit despite all of his best efforts. Losing to Sheamus, losing out at Civil War, losing to Matt Hardy.... it all took it's toll, wearing AJ down while at the same time, The Rock tried to convince him it wasn't the Phenomenal One at fault but rather the people he'd aligned himself with. Styles refused to believe it though, vowing to prove him wrong and turn things around for the Zaibatsu, only to suffer one more loss when teaming with long-term friend Christopher Daniels against Wade Barrett and Kane of The Cure, after mistaking Anderson's arrival for interference against him and his partner.... and finally, he hit rock bottom. Something inside of AJ snapped, something that perhaps can never be repaired.... and AJ SMASHED a steel chair over Daniels head, putting his friend down and out as he joined The Cure, turning his back on his friends, his allies, his principles, and selling his soul to the devil himself, The Rock! Or at leat, that's how it looked anyway.... However, as revealed at Fully Loaded, it was all a ruse by Styles to infiltrate The Cure and help the Zaibatsu to victory in what was billed as a huge battle to end the war between the two factions, when no one thought the Zaibatsu could get the job done! AJ was back with his teammates and friends again, although The Rock would have the last laugh that night, coming back to cash in his Civil War Contract and steal Masato Tanaka's Triple Crown Title, causing Tanaka to rethink his priorities and leave for Japan, putting Evan Bourne in charge of the Zaibatsu while AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels decided to make a run at the Tag Team Championships once again!
