Meaning: Guruḥ agniḥ dvijatīnam – Agni is the guru for the dvijati (Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya). Varnanaam Brahmanah Guruh – Brahman is the Guru for all the Varnas. Patiḥ eva guruḥ striṇām – For women, the husband is the guru. Sarvasya abhyagatah guruh – and for everyone, the guest (visitor) is the guru. Meaning For the Dwijatis (who have received the Upanayana ritual), Agni is the supreme Guru. Brahmins are considered to be the gurus for all castes. For women, their husbands are the teachers. And for every person, the guest teacher who came home deserves equal respect. Simple explanation (for students) This verse describes the tradition of giving respect in society. 1.
