GreenEnergyOfficer Update Dec2020

Dear MEL membership, I hope you all are safe and sound. As Green Energy Officer for the MEL Group, I would like to take a moment to update you on my activities in 2020, and on my plans for the MEL projects. In 2020, I finished my Masters degree in the environmental and green engineering program at the University of Western Ontario. I was involved in three projects, such as purification of chemicals from cannabis, control of emissions in sulfite pulping mills and advanced fluidized reactor design. At the same time, I have been working full time (for 8 months) at Aecon Materials Engineering. The work has been paused and will be resumed in March. In the meantime, I would like to focus more on our ongoing MEL projects. I will be sharing some articles with you which I will introduce here in this video. 1) I was working on the e-waste project and in particular, I was willing to develop the technology for Lithium Ion Batteries recycling processes. That is something that my fellow engineers within MEL and I need to cooperate on. Meanwhile, I am moving forward with the handling and management parts as a community based project. 2) I came across some interesting research papers from Dr. Christina Hoicka, an associate professor at York University. Hoicka has been working on an energy efficiency project involving renewable energy clusters. I will prepare an article and explain her point of view. 3) My research experience at Ryerson University exposed me to the idea that the CO2 capture projects are really interesting and in demand. I am thinking of developing a model where we can relate CO2 capture technology to Dr. Hoicka’s research areas. I will also provide you with an article regarding this topic. I will keep you posted. Stay tuned. Best regards, Hamid Hamidreza Dargahi Green Energy Officer, MEL Group
