He finds Alfred changing a tire and offers to help but Alfred politely declines. Clark notices a visibly sad boy in the car and invites him to play. With Alfred's encouragement Bruce agrees. Clark asks if Bruce wants to hit or pitch - Bruce chooses to bat. As they play baseball, Clark sees Bruce seems to have no experience and asks if he's ever played before. Ashamed, Bruce admits he hasn't. Clark asks what Bruce does for fun. Bruce sets down the bat, removes his jacket, and takes a fighter's stance. Clark grins and charges, but Bruce effortlessly stuns him with a quick move. An amazed Clark asks Bruce to teach him that move. They play for several hours until sunset. The Kent's invite Alfred and Bruce over for dinner. Later Alfred admits he could've changed the tire sooner but didn't since he'd never seen Bruce so happy, he just wanted to let him keep playing. Later that night, Bruce hits Clark with a stick, saying he knows Clark is stronger than he lets on.
