𝐕𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬 – 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐜𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐨 Maximilian Lenz, known as WestBam, was born on March 4, 1965, in Münster, Westphalia, Germany. He is recognized as the most successful and popular DJ in the Raving Society and an avant-garde artist in Germany. Additionally, he is an innovative producer and co-founder of the Berlin-based indie dance label Low Spirit. His DJ career began in the years 1983-1990 at the Odeon Club in Münster. In 1984, he permanently moved to Berlin, which was still divided by the wall at the time. WestBam started his career as a DJ at Berlin's renowned Metropol, where his sophisticated mixing techniques earned him fame beyond the city's divided borders. In 1985, WestBam collaborated with Klaus Jankuhn to produce his first 12" titled '17', inspired by Paul Hardcastle's '19'. A highlight of these early years was his performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, where he represented German culture at the invitation of the Goethe Institute. His first album, 'The Cabinet', released in 1989, was Germany's first DJ concept album. It included the track 'The Roof Is On Fire', which marked a breakthrough for DJ WestBam and Low Spirit Recordings. From 1991 to 1995, WestBam's career soared with hits like "Monkey Say Monkey Do", "And Party", and "No More Fucking Rock'n'Roll", among others. His second album, 'A Practicing Maniac At Work', was released in 1991, the same year the first Mayday event took place. WestBam played a significant role in the artistic conception of this and subsequent Maydays. Together with Klaus Jankuhn, under the name 'Members of Mayday', they created anthems for each Mayday event, achieving cult status. MEMBERS OF MAYDAY - MAYDAY ANTHEM 1992 • Members of Mayday - Mayday Anthem 1992 (... WestBam's album 'Bam Bam Bam', released in 1994, featured the successful single 'Celebration Generation', which charted at number 21 on the Media Control charts. The album reached the fourteenth place on the German LP charts and sold more than 140,000 copies in Germany. WESTBAM – BAM BAM BAM • WestBam – Bam Bam Bam In 1995, WestBam charted again with a remix of the Yello classic 'Bostich'. The first Members Of Mayday album, 'Members only', was released, compiling all the 'Members' hits. That same year, WestBam, Koon, and Stephenson recorded 'Always Music', a collaboration between WestBam, Jankuhn, and Belgian DJ Axel Stephenson (Bonzai Rec.). The tenth anniversary of the Low Spirit label was celebrated in 1995 with the release of the double CD 'The Age Of The DJ Mixer - 10 Years Of Low Spirit', featuring ten tracks recorded with WestBam. WESTBAMS HANDS ON YELLO – BOSTICH • Westbams Hands On Yello – Bostich In mid-1996, he released 'Terminator', a transparent electronic track that quickly gained popularity in the club scene. His next release, 'Born To Bang', came out in November 1996, showcasing the diversity of Max Lenz's musical talents and establishing WestBam as a creative trendsetter. WESTBAM – TERMINATOR • WestBam – Terminator As a DJ, Maximilian Lenz has become internationally sought after, with successful tours in the USA, Japan, Australia, and Africa. He regularly performs at the Berlin club "E-Werk" and his biannual performances at the Mayday parties are always highlights. In 1996, JDJ International released an album titled 'WestBam - Ich bin ein bass-liner, purismmix from JDJ'. WestBam has had a significant impact on the techno house cultural movement, and his creative impulse remains vibrant.
