Continental Drift Theory

The Continental Drift Theory, proposed by Alfred Wegener in 1912, states that Earth's continents were once part of a supercontinent called Pangaea, which gradually broke apart and drifted to their current positions. Wegener supported his theory with evidence such as fossil similarities, matching geological formations, and ancient glacial deposits in now warm regions. However, the theory was initially rejected due to the lack of an explanation for how continents moved. In the 1960s, the Plate Tectonics Theory provided the missing mechanism, showing that continents move due to shifting tectonic plates driven by convection currents in the Earth's mantle.
