Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams instrumental cover

Hi world. Click on “show more” below for a description of this video, including equipment details. So, a while ago I did a drum cover of this song (pretty easy but fun) on my other channel, crappyassdrummer. At some point, I realized that there’s nothing really tricky on ANY of the instruments, so what the heck, I played the whole thing as a one-man band. I’m quite pleased with the result, I must say, particularly some of the guitar sounds I managed to get, all on a Boss GT-10 effects processor. The intro guitar (bottom right) is done in the original, google reliably informs me, with a tremolo effect. I couldn’t get my tremolo to match the tempo, so I used the slicer effect instead, but the result is quite similar. The “acoustic” guitar, my least favourite, is the stock “acoustic” patch on the GT-10 with post-processing compression and reverb, and capo on the first fret to avoid bar chords. The rhythm distorted guitars are the “Green Punk” patch tweaked and with delay added. The solo is the same patch, with different tweaking and fairly heavy reverb and delay. The clean slide sound (top right at 0:24, for example) is the “Tokyo Dreamland” patch unchanged, since it was absolutely perfect for the job. The wah guitar at the end is a custom patch with auto wah since I couldn’t be bothered to move the pedal board across the room. The majority of the guitars are just power chords. The only part that took a lot of takes is the solo (top centre, when it’s not acoustic). Many people on YouTube are playing the solo with just single notes, but I went with octaves on the A and G strings for a fuller sound, and muting the strings not in use, especially the D, was a bit tricky. 5 or 6 takes before I got the result I wanted! Equipment: Drums: Roland TD-30 Bass: Mid-80s Yamaha RBX200 (Thanks Mum!) White guitar: Epiphone Les Paul Custom (2008?) Red guitar: Gibson Les Paul Custom (2013) Piano sound: M-Audio Axiom 25 driving Kontakt 4, August Foerster Grand patch.
