Chameleon Reaction

Chameleon Reaction

Chemical Chameleon experiment. This experiment is a solutions that changes color. These colors can include: red, purple, blue, green and yellow. Warning! Sodium Hydroxide is caustic and will cause burns on contact with your skin and eyes. Potassium Permanganate is also caustic and it is a powerful oxidiser. So how does this work? This type of reaction is called a redox reaction where the potassium permanganate is reduced and the sugar is oxidised. So now the permanganate ion is reduced to the manganate ion and that is reduced further to manganese dioxide, resulting in the change of color.
