📌 Rosary of the Third Order — Luminous Mysteries — December 18, 2025 --- 📿 Today we pray together the Rosary of the Third Order — Luminous Mysteries On this December 18th, the Church lovingly and deeply devoutly remembers the traditional memory of Our Lady of Expectation, also called Our Lady of the O, one of the oldest and most beautiful invocations of the Virgin Mary. --- 🌟 Who is Our Lady of the O? (Our Lady of Expectation) Our Lady of the O is the Virgin Mary in the final stages of her pregnancy, experiencing the expectation of the birth of Jesus Christ. This devotion contemplates the Mother of God in those last days of silence, hope, and profound surrender to the Father's will, while she carries the Savior of the world in her womb. She is called "Our Lady of the O" because of the great "O!" The antiphons of the O Mother, sung since the first centuries in the liturgies preceding Christmas, express the desire, expectation, and supplication of the Church. These are expressions such as: O Wisdom O Adonai O Root of Jesse O Key of David O Rising Sun O King of Nations O Emmanuel These antiphons reveal the spiritual intensity of the expectation of the coming of the Messiah. --- ⛪ Origin of the Feast – What does the Church teach? The Feast of the Expectation of the Virgin Mary was officially instituted at the Tenth Council of Toledo in 656 AD, in Spain, where a very strong Marian devotion flourished. The bishops decided that, from that year onward, on December 18th, the Church would celebrate in a special way the divine motherhood of Mary in the last week before Christmas. This tradition spread rapidly throughout Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and many other Catholic countries. 🌿 Why “Expectation”? Because on this day the Church contemplates the sublime mystery of Mary's Motherhood, the “pregnant woman of Advent,” she who brings God into the world. 👑 The Catholic perspective The Church teaches that Mary lived this moment in perfect union with God, in humility, obedience, and total surrender, being a model of faith and trust.
