Si jeni Shqipëria? TAKE IT SLOW! - One very important lesson that we've learned so far is that it is important to take it slow. Do not rush! I, (Berni) especially always want to see as much as possible and tend to put quantity over quality. I keep thinking that I might never come to this place again and therefore want to visit everything. Often we go to places where we know in advance that we wont like it, but we go there to be able to say that we have been there. Thats insane! Back when I was travelling solo I started hitching with sunrise and stopped after dark. And the same the next day, never stopping somewhere for more than one night. For almost one year straight. I was so full of energy, knowing I only have one year and I might not have the time ever again, I rushed through the most amazing sights like a maniac. Ayers Rock/Uluru in Australia- 4 hours instead of the recommended 3 days, 2-3 day hikes in Indonesia in one night,... All that just to prove myself how much I can see in that little time period, not realizing that I actually didn't see anything. People invited me to their house, but I had a further destination planned for that day, so "thanks, but no thanks". And so on. - Now Im not alone anymore, now I have to be considerate of Alex, and she has changed my way of travelling. She is tired after 10 hours of hitchhiking, something new and unimaginable for me. Therefore we stop earlier, dont go so far that day, but therefore have a nice campsite instead of sleeping somewhere in the bush. We meet more people and make deeper connections with them because we seem more trustworthy as a couple and we take more time to actually get in touch with them. - In the first weeks I wanted to see how far I can push Alex and sometimes pushed a little too hard. Just like in that picture (swipe!). Dont be like us on that picture! Why push so hard to get to a beach, when you are so exhausted that you fall asleep when you arrive? - I am trying to slow down, it is not easy for me, but I'm certain that it will pay off in the long run. - This time however we pushed too hard and probably gotten our immune system a bit weak and got sick for 1 week (Alex almost 2 weeks). But after going from Berat to Sarandë we had an amazing host there where we could chill and just recover:) PS: and we had the coolest neighbours!
