Spalted oak wood platter/shallow wood bowl - Woodturning spalted oak

Welcome back! Just decided to grab a quick piece and do a little wood platter since I have a epoxy review in some beautiful dyed cherry burl hollow form and another cast piece in a peach crotch. The peach crotch is a pretty sweet piece I will say. But those two are taking a min with their finishes so here we are. So back to this piece! It came from some Oak on my property that had to be taken down to dying and being close to my house. I had set it to the side to split up into firewood. But once I split one log I had to save the rest. I've already used most of it except maybe a few pieces and one needs to be cast with a big void. It is twice turned. Meaning turned once green, set aside to dry out for a year, then rounded back once dry. I finished it with two coats of danish oil with the last being a wet sanded coat. Using 400 grit or whatever your final sanding was allows the small wood particles you're removing to mix in with the oil into a slurry. Let it sit (just like waxing a car). Except you wait until it's almost dry dry and buff off the excess with a rag. The slurry sets into any large grain ends, cracks or pits for a super smooth finish. The more you do it the better it looks but you need to let it sit longer each time. Play with it and see how it goes. Thanks for watching!
