Baptism of our Lord Sunday- January 11, 2025

Why was Jesus baptized? Christians have wrestled with this for centuries. If baptism is about repentance and the cleansing of sin, and Jesus was without sin, then why did he need to be baptized? Some point to Jesus’ baptism as his first miracle - the Son of God humbling himself enough to be baptized by John. Jesus has no sins to be forgiven. Yet he aligns himself with us, recognizing our needs and aligning with us, to save us. Jesus embraces and unites himself with us in baptism, foreshadowing his saving act on the cross.
