The sequel's plot tells the story of New York City, one of Earth's most iconic cities, being hit by several disasters at once: a monstrous, incurable disease, mercenaries from private military corporations attempting to seize power, and a wave of aliens engulfing the city. Midway through the game, a flood adds to the list of problems, destroying half the city and even the Statue of Liberty. The game's protagonist, a Marine nicknamed Alcatraz, is given a Nanosuit version 2 by fate. The protagonist's suit is imprinted with a strange code, the decipherment of which, scientists claim, will save people from the terrible plague raging through the city's streets. Moreover, the suit gives the hero the ability to fight mercenaries and aliens who have returned from a failed landing attempt in the Pacific Ocean.
