Previously in Part 16 Mordin asks Shepard to help him rescue Maelon, his former student, who has been kidnapped by the Blood Pack. Maelon was one of the main scientists who developed the genophage, a virus used to weaken the Krogan race. Shepard and his team travel to Tuchanka, Krogan's home planet, to rescue Maelon. There, they discovered that Maelon had been captured by Clan Weyrloc, a group of Krogan who opposed the genophage. When Shepard and his team finally find Maelon, they learn that he has been conducting research to find a cure for the genophage. This was a devastating blow for Mordin, who had long believed that the genophage was the only way to save the galaxy from the rapidly multiplying Krogan. Not long after talking with Maelon, Shepard and Mordin managed to convince Maelon to run away and Mordin saved data about the genophage cure.
