I had a playlist I found on YouTube called "Favorites of the 70's and 80's" that had this song on it and brought it back to my attention while I'd be doing homework. Now, a patron has requested it, and so I'm happy to do it. I've also heard the Johnny Cash version as well and it's very different than the original. The poll I did about how to tab a 5 string part was about this song because it goes below the normal range of E or Eb standard tuning. I've Put those notes up an octave (2 notes on 3 occasions) and I've put a little text note in the video to identify those for you. I used the Synth Pedal that's listed above to get the octave effect at those sections, rather than actually recording it a second time down that octave (like I've done for other videos before xD) So as far as the instrumentation goes, Depeche Mode didn't really have a bassist. The Main riff that you hear is a guitar. The first video I've linked shows both these things wells. There's vocals, drums, guitar, and synth/keys. The bass part is a synth bass part and is really not very active, despite what you might be able to find out there. Generally, the videos "show" that the drum pattern with that quick hit before the 3rd beat of the measure is not in the bass. • Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus (ZDF HD... no bassist, mimed, but year of release • Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus (Live o...
