After reading of the passing of Brian Wilson I've been reflecting a lot today and realising just how MUCH his genius (and the love and joy he put into his music making) influenced my young and curious musical mind ... my love of beautiful harmonies and my obsession with AMAZING arrangements is very much due to experiencing his incredible work in those formative years... and I am deeply grateful. "God Only Knows" is one of the greatest songs ever written... there are days like today where I think it just might be the greatest... This is an arrangement I wrote about 4 years ago... I wanted to honour the beauty and depth of Brian's song by making a kind of piano rhapsody out of it... something almost in the style of Mahler... Today I decided to make a new video for it and share it as a sign of my gratitude for his life and work ... thank you for being a HUGE part of my childhood soundtrack ... and for this song which has brought comfort through the years... comfort along with that thrill of encountering true greatness.... it's the same feeling I get when listening to Beethoven ... or Mozart... or Mahler ... and it never gets old.
