Cologne Fort 1879 !!! Fascinating !!!!

Cologne Fort XI: The planned garrison for the Cologne fortress in wartime was 50,000 soldiers and 6,000 horses. The fortifications were equipped with a total of 450 guns ranging in caliber from 3.7 cm to 21.0 cm. In addition, there were 120 stationary and 280 mobile searchlights. Due to the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was required to dismantle all fortifications on both sides of the Rhine. It is thanks to the then-mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer, that several fortifications were preserved, and the fortress areas were ultimately transformed into Cologne's green belt starting in 1924 as part of job creation programs. Cologne became the proverbial "city in the green." The moats of the forts were mostly filled in, while the structures in the gorge remained freely accessible. Anyone who has never been to one of these forts in Cologne absolutely must see it; it's truly fascinating, I can tell you. Video contains product placement!! e-mail: [email protected]
