Stock Market Today | January 19, 2021 Here's what happened in the stock market today, Tuesday, Jan 19th - in 4 minutes or less Stocks ended higher today, bouncing back from last week’s losses Let's take a look at all the indices: The Dow added 0.4%, the S&P 500 gained 0.8%, and the Nasdaq rose 1.5% after touching its all-time closing high in intraday trading. So what happened today? FB finally has a good day and bounced back after a tough week: Up 3.87% today after JPMorgan said it’s time to buy the big tech stocks again. And GM keeps skyrocketing, closing 9.75% higher after MSFT said it will invest in GM's self-driving cruise project. On the political front, it was a big day for former Fed Chair Janet Yellen. She appeared before the Senate Finance Committee today to be confirmed as Treasury Secretary. Yellen said it is time to “act big” on fiscal stimulus because “the benefits will far outweigh the costs.” This means: More stimulus is coming! Also, there's some good news on the Coronavirus front: New cases are finally declining, and Dr. Walensky, Biden’s pick to lead the CDC, said Sunday that she’s confident the U.S. will have enough vaccine doses to meet the incoming administration’s goal of vaccinating 100 million people in 100 days. So what’s in store for tomorrow? Well, tomorrow brings the inauguration of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.
