HHS Secretary RFK Jr., FDA commissioner announce ban on artificial food dyes

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Mary Makary announced a ban on artificial food dyes during a press conference on Tuesday. Both agencies are working to phase out petroleum-based synthetic dyes, which are present in numerous foods such as breakfast cereals, candy, snacks, and beverages. "Today, the FDA is taking action to remove petroleum-based food dyes," Makary said at the beginning of the press conference. "For the last 50 years, American children have increasingly been living in a toxic soup of synthetic chemicals.
