What is Black Tuesday?

Black Tuesday was 27 April, 1965 and was a very important day in the fight for majority rule. On Black Tuesday, the PLP tried to have 2 changes made to the law to make elections more fair. When both changes were rejected, Sir Lynden Pindling walked over to the Speakers Table, picked up the Mace and said: “This is the symbol of authority and authority in The Bahamas belongs to the people and the people are outside”. He then threw the mace out of the House of Assembly window! The mace was 165 years old when he did that!
