1 Hey Jude #thebeatles At the end of 1968, John Lennon and his then-wife Cynthia Powell were going through a complicated divorce that seriously affected their 5-year-old son, Julian Lennon. Paul McCartney, who at the time considered the young man's spiritual uncle, decided to write and give him a song to cheer him up. The original title of the song was "Hey Jules," but years later he changed the name to "Hey Jude" because it sounded better. John Lennon always thought the song was dedicated to him, as he clearly identified with the words of comfort and support he received during his separation from his ex-wife. It wasn't until several years after its creation that Paul revealed the true reason it was written.
