Fasting is an incredible tool for mental health, and I get so many benefits from it. BUT it is very individual. Fasting is a hormetic stressor, meaning it stresses your body out for a short period to create resilience. It works because you recover afteward. However, if you have an active menstrual cycle or you're in perimenopause when estrogen and progesterone are fluctuating more than usual, fasting can be more stressful during the luteal phase of your cycle (the 10ish days before your menstrual phase). It's always important to consider the needs of your unique body before trying something new.
