Prevost will take the name Leo XIV. White smoke billowed out of the Sistine Chapel on Thursday, indicating Catholic cardinals from around the world have elected a new pope. The smoke appeared around 6 p.m. local time, suggesting the new pontiff was picked after the fourth ballot.
