Steamer Lane Surfing

http://h1ker.com/ - for more great outdoor content. Steamer Lane is an advanced surfing spot in Santa Cruz, CA. The waves break along the reef and cliffs of Lighthouse Point and are mostly rights. For adventurous (and highly skilled) surfers there is a nook that affords lefts but again, this is very advanced and there is no beach, the waves push right into the cliffs above. This video shows a surfer jumping into the water from Lighthouse Point and then paddling out for the rights. Pedestrians enjoy watching from above, there is a concrete sidewalk and railing to keep people back. This is a great spot for biking, jogging and short walks, or romantic sunsets. If you're considering surfing here remember that it is an advanced spot! The waves can get well overhead and the cliffs are very unforgiving. The locals can also be intimidating but that's mostly because it's a serious spot and nobody wants to see someone get hurt.
