Trust and Obey

John Sammis was born in 1846, and wrote Trust and Obey in 1886 at the age of 40. He had started his adult life in business and was very successful, but heard a call to the ministry in his late 30s, and became a pastor in several churches before completing his career as a college professor. He wrote more than 100 hymns, many of them centered on the spiritual necessity of trusting in God.
