ACE COMBAT™ 7 Mission 03: Two-Pronged Strategy (Ace)

The Dassault Mirage 2000-5 is the latest version of the Mirage 2000, the French answer to the F-16 that almost didn't happen. Dassault was much more interested in the G8A, a fixed-wing version of the swing-wing Mirage G8, which was to compete with the Panavia Tornado. When the French Air Force decided they wanted something fast instead of something agile, Dassault put in a second engine to create the Super Mirage G8A. Expensive and overengineered, the F-16's rapid sales lead to its cancellation and the early Mirage 2000, then known as the Delta 2000, gaining attention. In many ways it was the G8A's opposite - an interceptor first and an attacker second, the Delta 2000 was still decently fast while being simpler and far more importantly cheaper.
