When the clutch pedal is pressed, these two parts separate, and the engine's power is not transmitted to the transmission. As a result, the engine runs idle. The transmission gears can then move freely, allowing you to change gears. When the driver releases the clutch pedal, the clutch disc and pressure plate come into contact again, which enables the engine's power to be transferred to the wheels, and the vehicle moves.
