Eric Clapton 80th birthday

Eric Clapton 80th birthday

Yeaaaaaah!!! Today is Clapton's birthday, 80 years old!!!! 😱😱😱 On the 1st video, the solo of the track “Double Crossing Time”, from the album “Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton”, also known as “The Beano Album” in reference to the comic strip Clapton holds in his hands on the cover... For the record: exactly 60 years ago, in April 1965, a few days after leaving his other band “The Yardbirds” in full glory (with their hit “For your Love”, too commercial for Clapton 😁 ), Clapton joined John Mayall, father of the British Blues Boom... Clapton cribbed from him, with unlimited access to his huge collection of blues vinyl albums to learn from... 1 year later, in April 1966, the famous “Beano Album” was recorded... an opportunity to discover a new combination for guitarists: 1 Gibson Les Paul guitar combined with a Marshall JTM 45 amp. Full volume to make it saturate 😱😱😱. So no pedals: 1 guitar, 1 amp and a guitarist 😁 The sound engineer complained that the sound was too loud, impossible to record.... So on this 1st video, we have a young Clapton delivering a blues de la muerte solo, powerful...that crazy vibrato...it's just extraordinary 😍😍😍😍... On the 2nd video, it's THE Clapton song for me: “Layla” from the album “Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs”. Directly inspired by his personal love story, you only have to listen to the lyrics and hear Clapton scream to understand his malaise... Recorded on September 9, 1970 (9 days before the death of his friend Jimi Hendrix, who would leave a lasting impression on him...). The guitar riff is directly inspired (in accelerated form) by “As The Years Go Passing By” by Albert King, another blues giant. The piano part comes from (excellent!) drummer Jim Gordon. It's also an opportunity to hear the full talent of another guitarist: Duane Allman (he's the guy with the big moustache on the inside cover 😉 ). Clapton and Allman had just met 2 weeks earlier...and it “clicked” immediately. It was providence!!! The album wouldn't have been as good if Allman hadn't collaborated on it, that's for sure!!!! Ah yes...this album is stamped “Derek and The Dominos”...commercial failure on its release because it didn't have Clapton's name on it...but in fact, Clapton IS Derek 😁😁😁 Happy Birthday Mr Clapton!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰...
