Baguio City is known as the "Summer Capital" of the Philippines. The city is a frequent destination of local tourists during the hot summer season. Its high altitude, cold climate and lovely landscapes make the city an ideal refuge to escape the scorching summer heat here in the Philippines. Strawberries, which are usually found in non-tropical areas, are grown there. Baguio City is known for its 'cold climate' even if it's located in a tropical country. It has many beautiful parks and picnic groves. It has so many colorful flowers and amazing gardens. The city is famous for its mild climate, that's why it is nicknamed as the "Summer Capital of the Philippines". Because of its high elevation, the temperature in the municipality is about 8 degrees Celsius lower than the average temperature over the rest of the country. Baguio acts as the 'central city' of the autonomous region of the Cordilleras. The Cordillera Region is the place where the indigenous 'Igorot people' reside and have a semi-autonomous government of their own. The city's native cultural heritage is well-preserved by the indigenous Igorot people residing in that place. The city has diverse religious temples and sanctuaries. Religious tolerance reigns in the said city. Just like the rest of the Philippines, Baguio City loves celebrating colorful and joyous festivals. Its most famous festival is called "Panagbenga" which is a month-long annual celebration of the "season of blooming flowers". The festival, held during the month of February, was crafted as a way of paying tribute and homage to the city's flowers.
