What do all classic cocktails have in common? They're boozy, and they're simple. Most use 4 or fewer ingredients, but they all pack big flavors. The Manhattan is no exception. #classickcocktail #manhattan #craftcocktails Ingredients 1 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth 2 oz Woodford Reserve Rye 4 Dashes of Bitters Instructions #1 - Combine ingredients into mixing glass #2 - Stir over ice for 60 revelations #3 - Strain into glass #4 - Garnish with Cherry When I started seriously working on my bartending skills and cocktail making, I needed to learn to drink the classics. Since they're more spirit-forward than your average Captain and Sprite. It took some time, but eventually, I adjusted my palate and actually started to enjoy them. The Manhattan was one of these cocktails. I remember the first time I ordered one. I took a sip and wondered how anyone could possibly drink one. It tasted like gasoline. But, over time, my taste buds matured. Now I'm the one choosing to consume them. I think it's essential to use high-quality ingredients without breaking the bank in all of my cocktails. For a cocktail as undiluted and straightforward as the Manhattan, you'll want to choose a good rye whiskey. I am using Woodford Reserve's Rye. It's spicy and gives just a hint of a tobacco flavor. I pair this rye with Carpano Antica sweet vermouth. The notes of fig and cherries pair well with the peppery bite of the Woodford Rye. I will rarely say this, but sometimes, you have to splurge for quality. And for slightly more than $20 for a jar, Luxardo cherries are worth the price. I garnish my Manhattan with a Luxardo cherry (or 3 if the mood strikes me). If you've never tried one of these little treats, you owe it to yourself to try one. Some people like to use a cocktail pick and set it across the rim of the glass. I, personally, like to drop the cherry into the glass. It adds just a small hint of sweetness to the cocktail. That, and I want to eat it after it's been sitting in the cocktail a while. It's kind of like a reward for drinking a "grown-up" drink.
