The scary cool tech behind the new animatronics in Epic Universe ð§ââïļð#epicuniverse
Universal Orlando just shared our best look yet at the preshow for the Monsters Unchained ride coming to their new theme park Epic Universe. The ride will have you encounter a lineup of classic movie monsters, but things get started with Frankensteinâs monster and Dr. Victoria Frankenstein. I wanted to focus on this animatronic, because it shows off a new technology that Universal has been developing for years. A few years ago a patent came out for Dynamic Projection Mapping for Animated Figures. Universal Creative is using a combination of an animatronic head and advanced projection mapping to blend digital animation with physical animation. They do this to solve the unrealistic backlight effect found on using projections with previous animated figures, like the ones at Disney Worldâs Frozen ride. Victoria Frankensteinâs face is an animated projection, but look closely and youâll see the animatronicâs jaw moving in sync with the animation.
