Cloud

Cloud

A short film about 'poplar poofs'. Feat. "Cloud (For Lhasa)" by The Barr Brothers. It’s like winter in June when the poplar trees let fly their fluffy, white, snow-like seed puffs... *** Directed & Filmed by Ezra Soiferman Artist's Statement: Ever since I was a kid, I wondered where those fluffy urban clouds that blanketed lawns and streets across the city came from. So one day, as they swirled around my feet in a grocery store parking lot, I decided to make a little film about them, those lovely poplar tree puffs. I filmed the entire thing on my iPhone throughout my neighbourhood that very afternoon. I then headed home, lay down to rest with some music on shuffle and this gorgeous, perfectly suited song, “Cloud”, by the Barr Brothers, randomly popped on and floated out through the speakers. I hadn't heard it in years. Inspired, I used my phone to edit the images to the song that very evening, and I'm pleased to share it with you today. Montreal band The Barr Brothers dedicated this song to their late friend, beloved Montreal singer Lhasa de Sela (1972-2010). I dedicate this video to her as well. She and I were featured as Québecois of the Year on the cover of L'actualité Magazine in 1998. Longtime fan of Lhasa's unique art. Thank you to The Barr Brothers for recording this beautiful song as a tribute to her.
