LifeSource is headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois with satellite offices throughout the Chicagoland area including Naperville, IL. They are responsible for donor recruitment, blood collection, component manufacturing, testing and product management in our region. Even with all of today’s medical advancements, there is no substitute for human blood. The need for blood products can occur in persons of all ages, from premature infants to the elderly. A stable blood supply is vital at all times as someone is in need of blood every two seconds. LifeSource seeks to make it easy and convenient for anyone to donate blood. They operate donor centers located throughout the Chicagoland area. All centers collect whole blood donations and many of the sites also operate as apheresis centers to collect platelet and plasma products. In addition, they operate an average of 10 daily mobile blood drives around the area. As Janine and Kathleen explain, people can donate anywhere between three and 24 times each year, depending on the type of donation and whether the person is eligible to donate. There are basic qualifications that every donor must meet; most restrictions are because of medical and travel history. The actual donation process is quick, easy and painless.
